Final piece of restoration started

The large-scale restoration campaign of Park Abbey is getting a sublime final piece with the restoration and repurposing of the east and north wing and infirmary.

13 September 2021

The City of Leuven has awarded the work for this to contractor Monument-Vandekerckhove. Architecture firm Studio Roma and engineering firm Ingenium drew up the plans and will monitor the work.

Mixed use

The east and north wing and infirmary have been repurposed for mixed use by EAP (Park Abbey Heritage site) and KU Leuven. As part of the arrangement, large parts of these buildings will be leased to KU Leuven after the restoration.

Eye-catcher

One of the eye-catchers is the 16th-century chapter hall in the east wing. The first floor of the east wing and infirmary will have rooms and living spaces for monks and student priests. The attic floor of the east wing gets an additional exhibition space.

September 2021 to 2025

The work starts on 13 September 2021 and will continue until 2025. The cost of the work is estimated at EUR 8,962,646.37.

The restoration campaign of Park Abbey is part of the multi-year subsidising by the Flemish government.
