Works at the abbey site

From 18 August 2025 to the end of February 2026, we will be renovating the central square of Park Abbey, the Neerhof. We are combining heritage preservation with sustainability, accessibility and a green design. Below you can read what will happen and what to keep in mind when visiting the abbey.

The Works

We are transforming the square into a green, welcoming and sustainable space — a pleasant area for residents, visitors and passers-by.

Timing

  • Start of works: Monday 18 August 2025
  • End of works: End of February 2026

Phases

The works will proceed in the following phases:

  • Phase 1: Works around the Sint-Janspoort and Provisorenhuis
  • Phase 2: Works near the Tiendenschuur and stables
  • Phase 3: Works at the Sint-Norbertuspoort and the central square

The Neerhof will remain accessible to pedestrians, but will be closed to bicycle and car traffic during the entire works.

We are currently in phase 1. Below you’ll find what this means for accessibility on the abbey site. This web page is regularly updated with the latest information.

How to get there?

On foot

The Neerhof remains accessible to pedestrians.

AttentionPhase 1: The Sint-Janspoort will be closed for 15 working days. During this time, there is no passage through the gate. The Neerhof remains accessible via a short pedestrian detour.

By bike

  • Cyclists follow a detour via Geldenaaksebaan, Tivolistraat, Parkweg bridge, Parkweg, and Norbertijnerweg.
  • You may walk your bike through the pedestrian zone.

By car

  • The Neerhof is closed to car traffic.
  • Parking is not allowed there.
  • Three temporary parking spaces for persons with disabilities will be provided along Norbertijnerweg.

How to visit the partners?

  • Museum PARCUM remains accessible via its usual entrance.
  • Farm shop De Wikke and brasserie De Abdijmolen are also reachable via their regular access routes.
  • Kerk in Nood has a temporary entrance — follow the local signage.

Phase 1: The construction zone around the Sint-Janspoort and Provisorenhuis is marked with purple lines. Pedestrians follow the orange walking detour during phase 1a and the green one during phase 1b.
