Rich or poor, young or old, religious or culturally diverse: food brings people together. It tells a story about who you are, where you come from and what you stand for. Not surprisingly, food plays an essential role in many traditions and celebrations.
What we eat and how we prepare food is subject to time. For many people, religion plays a determining role in their choices. Faith largely determines what you can or cannot eat and how something should be prepared. But equally, food or its abstinence plays an important role in celebrations, traditions and rites of passage.
In the exhibition ‘Come to dinner’, PARCUM highlights the dietary laws, fasting practices and culinary traditions among Muslims, Jews and Christians. Join us at the table and discover the story behind matzes, the fight between Carnival and Lent and the meaning of the Zamzam water.
